HipHopRx
At its core, Hip Hop is about living. HipHopRx is a Studio / Lab — a collective of artists, scholars, and everyday creatives that ask: What does health justice look like, feel like, and sound like?
In the lab, we advance how people theorize music and other forms of creative and cultural expression. Our interdisciplinary work spans Black Studies, history, anthropology, and ethnomusicology, with a particular emphasis on:
- Embodied Ethnography: the body as a site of knowledge
- Musical Genealogies: tracing how sounds, styles, and stories move across space and time
- Narrative Medicine: how the very act of speaking can remake what seems irreparable
- Sound Studies: examine how rhythm and voice create the sonic conditions from which subjectivity emerges
In the studio, we curate spaces for experimental work that refuses classification. Artists explore freely across film, music, production, visual art, poetry, or whatever else calls them. Through artist residencies, creative retreats (partnered with 22rivrs), workshops, collaborative projects, and community gatherings, we strive to create the conditions that allow for a kind of unguarded creativity, where new forms of expression can breathe.
